Lady's Well / Holy well

A short distance east south east of St May's Church on the eastern shore of the island is a Holy Well known as Lady's Well. It was the last station on the rounds of the pilgrimage. According to tradition if a pilgrim could see his reflection in the water his sins would be forgiven. Today It is quite difficult to see the water as a large circular wall was constructed around the well in the 1970s. During excavations of the area around the well, many offerings and coins were found but these dated to c1850 or later. From here we made our way back to St Mary's Church.

Situated: Lady's Well is located at the monastic site on Holy Island - Inis cealtra on Lough Derg, County Clare.
